Maryland 5STAR at Fair Hill Pony Races

The 2nd running of the Maryland 5STAR at Fair Hill Pony Races. Entries are now open and close on September 22nd. All ponies entering MUST BE well-behaved ponies and at least 5 years of age. All ponies must be on the property with a negative current coggins by 8:00 AM the day of the race. Parking is extremely limited, so ponies may have to have to “trailer share” to come in to the event. Leadline will go around lunch and the Shetland flat will go after the 5 star cross country.
CONDITIONS:
LEADLINE WALK/TROT- Races 1 and 2
Ponies must be small or medium ONLY (under 13.2 hands) and may trot or walk ONLY in the race. Ponies breaking to a canter must pull up and resume trotting. NO whips, blinkers, check reins, spurs, etc (see USPR General Rules for further details).
There is the possibility that entries may be assigned a leader by US Pony Racing. Entries should realize that this is meant to be a fun and safe experience for the rider and if entries are allowed to lead their own pony, they must allow the rider to steer and control pace, and leaders must remain next to the ponies shoulder at all times, no child should appear to be in distress. NO CANTERING. If they canter, pony must be pulled up immediately and resume trotting/walking, or will face disqualification. Riders in the younger division may have an assistant to spot rider. The assistant may NOT attempt to make pony go faster (no pushing or smacking ponies), or they may be disqualified.
Inky Dinky Saddles or basket saddles NOT permitted. English saddles only. All riders must have an approved helmet, safety stirrups. Safety vest higly reccomended. ALL leadline leaders must be 16 and over andy may not drag ponies, but stay next to them while riding with an eye on the jockey. Entries may be excused in any division for unsportsmanlike conduct.
Distance: No more than 1/16th of a mile
Leadline Division1/ Race1- For riders 4 years old and under. Rider may have a spotter.
Leadline Division2/ Race2- For riders who have NOT had their 7th bday as of January 1st of the current year.
SHETLAND PONY FLAT RACE
May be split into two divisions if entries warrant. Must be registered Shetland pony with papers, or approved by USPR otherwise. All rider/pony combos must be approved by USPR which includes galloping on entered pony in a group. All entries must have an approved helmet, safety stirrups, overgirth and safety vest. There is VERY little space to pull up. All ponies must be able to pull up quickly.
