Join US Pony Racing for the Aiken Pony Derby Races at the Aiken Training Trials in Aiken, SC on Saturday, March 11th. ALL are encouraged to participate. There will be a FREE CLINIC sponsored by the Temple Gwathmey Steeplechase Foundation the evening before the races (5:30pm Friday, March 17th) to ensure all riders and mounts combinations are suitable, understand the rules, and can maneuver in a group safely. You do not need to participate in the races to attend the clinic. If you wish to attend the clinic and are not participating in the races, email usponyracing@gmail.com and we will send you the exact location and particulars. Race entrants will receive more info via email after the close of entries on Monday. The focus on these races is to have FUN and provide a safe platform for juniors to try out pony racing. Races will be held on the dirt training track.

ENTRIES CLOSE at noon on March 11th, no entries will be accepted after this date.

DIVISIONS
Lead Line Trot (possibly 2 divisions) • Small Pony Flat (possibly a Shetland division if enough entries warrant) • Medium Pony Flat • Large Pony Flat • Young Rider Horse Flat

RULES:
• ALL riders in open races (non lead line) MUST wear an overgirth, neck strap or yoke, approved helmet, safety stirrups.
• ALL mounts MUST be at least 5 years of age.
• Ponies may be measured if their size is questionable.
• Pony riders in open races are not to have had their 16th bday as of January 1st.
• Young Rider Flat Race entrants may use racing tack, but must have their stirrup and boot combination pre-approved by USPR official before being permitted to run.
• No whips, spurs, blinkers, or any strange contraptions or check reins (standing and running martingales are permitted)
• ALL entries must have a signed release with health insurance information listed before being permitted to run

• If you need to ship in the day before, please contact Regina Welsh at usponyracing@gmail.com as soon as you know. Stalls are available for those shipping far and overnighting.
• The Aiken Trials will try their best to accommodate out of town riders and their families with some support for lodging.
• There will be a welcome picnic after the race practice/clinic on Friday, March 17th near the training track for those who are racing on Saturday.

I verify that I have read the race conditions and understand my entry must have an approved helmet, neck strap or yoke, overgirth, protective vest, and safety stirrups. Young rider horse division may use full racing tack and lead line trot entries are not required to have an overgirth or protective vest, though they are encouraged. No entry will be permitted to start without a signed release. I also understand my entry must be paid for by the closing date in order to be accepted. No refunds.

Entry fees are $30 for all pony divisions and $40 for the young rider horse division.
Entries are responsible for calling (410-329-3749) in payment if using a credit card. Entries paid by cash in advance or check must be received by entry closing date, as well as PayPal or Venmo (must be sent to USPonyRacing@gmail.com for PayPal and @usponyracing for Venmo) by closing date. If you multiple entries, you can pay all at once by sending total amount to usponyracing@gmail.com via Venmo or PayPal, but please make a note of which entries you are paying for.
